- Abstract
This article, published in the journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of the modified benign descriptor three (MBD 3) in diagnosing simple cysts and cystadenomas. The study collected ultrasound data from a University Hospital with a gynecologic oncology unit between 2012 and 2023. Two certified gynecologists classified adnexal masses using the MBD, and the results were compared to histopathology as the diagnostic reference standard. The study found that MBD 3 had a sensitivity of 74.7%, specificity of 95.2%, positive predictive value of 85.3%, negative predictive value of 91%, and diagnostic accuracy of 89.6% for characterizing cystadenomas and simple cysts.
