- Abstract
A letter to the editor of JAMA Psychiatry discusses the limitations of a study on the relationship between optimism and physical functioning in postmenopausal women. The letter points out that subsequent optimism may be biased if determined solely based on initial optimism, and that the reliability and validity of the study may be affected by the use of different versions of the optimism scale. The letter also suggests that excluding participants who are unable to complete measurements may lead to a misinterpretation of the results, and that the impact of different muscle mass compositions should be considered. The authors recommend further sensitivity analyses and investigation of underlying medical conditions in future studies.
