- Title
Tracking the Sun.
- Abstract
The article introduces the column of Tracking the Sun and offers information on the sun's motion, visibility of planets, and phases of the moon for March 2005. The column will allow students to graph the apparent motion of the sun caused by the real orbital and rotational motions of the Earth. This graph will comprise celestial coordinate position and midday altitude of the mid-month sun, its distance from Earth and size of the sun. During the month, the sun's apparent motion along the elliptic takes it across the constellation Pisces. For the first two weeks of the month, Mercury will be at its best visibility for the Northern Hemisphere, while Saturn will be visible over the southern horizon at sunset. Full moon will set on March 26.
