- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of objective type tests in organic chemistry. The objective tests are subjected to criticism by some teachers. Some teachers believe that the tests are not truly objective. The true-false type questions are objective but are undesirable by some teachers because of the problem of guess work. The teachers find it difficult to devise questions that will make the student think and apply his knowledge, instead of testing his memory by the factual items. A matching type of objective test for organic chemistry requires the student to do some thinking as well as memorizing of facts. Essentially, the objective test consists of two parts. One is a series of equations called as "road map" and the other is a numbered list of names to accompany the road map. Molecular formulas with inter-connecting arrows are given for the equations with conditions indicated wherever necessary.
