- Abstract
Almost every chemical process facility employs contractors at some stage. These people carry out a multitude of activities. People are one of the most important safety resources in a hazardous operation; they are however also one of the greatest potentials sources of risk. Therefore, it is essential that their activities are tied into a safety management system. This article uses the structure of the requirements of a safety management system as described in Annex III of the Seveso III Directive to indicate the aspects that should be taken into account in employing contractors in hazardous operations.
