- Title
The Influence of Milton on Blake’s ‘Night’ of Innocence.
- Authors
Miner, Paul
- Abstract
The article looks at unexplored allusions by the English poet William Blake to English poet John Milton. The author states that Blake's language and descriptions regarding the moon and angels in his 1789 poem "Night" from the collection "Songs of Innocence" seem to allude to Milton's work "Paradise Lost." Other examples of Milton's influence on Blake's work referenced in the article include Milton-inspired vocabulary in "The Four Zoas," spirit imagery in "Milton," and divine beings in "Jerusalem."
