The article links John Milton's allusion to Briareos as an image of Satan in his poem "Paradise Lost" to Natale Conti's book "Mythologiae." The author offers interpretations on Milton's simile, explores the history of Conti's work and its influence on French literature during the 16th and 17th century, and analyzes the typical treatment of Briareos in classical literature.
