- Title
UNRECORDED SEVENTEENTH-CENTURY ALLUSIONS TO DONNE.
- Authors
Ray, Robert H.
- Abstract
The article states that references to English poet John Donne in two books of secular poetry published in the 1650s apparently have not been noted. The poets are decidedly minor, but the citation of Donne (among other major writers of his time) is significant in reflecting further on his reputation and influence at mid-century. "Death in a New Dress: Or Sportive Funeral Elegies," refers to Donne in two satiric poems. The article presents first several lines of "On the Death of the most Renowned Poet, Mr. Martin Parker."
