- Title
The Political Economy of Syria: Realities and Challenges.
- Authors
Haddad, Bassam
- Abstract
The article focuses on the political economic conditions and problems of Syria. It says that protracted political succession and consolidation crisis and decrease in oil reserve were among the interrelated political and economic challenges, complicated by drought and a mismanaged water-supply system. Moreover, economic progress would remain limited and would not provide social stability if there was no firm political will to launch a social contract and comprehensive institutional reform.
