- Abstract
The origin of the so-called "modern science" is the subject of one of the greatest controversies in the History of Science. Currently, the hegemonic theoretical perspective is that which argues that modern science had its roots in the so-called "Scientific Revolution", however, in recent decades, this view has been re-evaluated by some historians. Called "continuists", these thinkers research the contributions of the medieval intellectual field in the construction of a critical, logical and rational thought, fundamental to modern scientific methodology. This communication aims to analyze the studies of the medieval historian Edward Grant who, by turning his attention to the role played by natural philosophy in the Early Middle Ages, identifies the foundations of modern sciences centuries before the Scientific Revolution.
