- Authors
Tarán, Sonya Lida
- Abstract
The article discusses several motifs of erotic poetry with reference to the love of boys in Book XII of the Greek Anthology. It is informed that there are numerous variations in epigrams of Hellenistic and late Hellenistic periods in the book. It is stated that the interpretation of the poems in the book show that the growth of hair marked the end of a boy's attraction during the period. The author discusses four groups of epigrams which compare the beloved to a kid and a lover to a wolf that pursues it, and states that the epigrams portray a natural development of the proverbial enmity between lambs and wolves. Interpretation of several poems and epigrams is also given.
