- Abstract
After the Second World War, industrial, technological developments and production gained speed; It caused radical changes in American society especially after 1950 and 1960. The transformation of social and cultural dynamics has also affected the productions in the field of art in America sociologically. In a period when the mass media, culture industry and popular culture were present in social life and the effects of Modernism decreased, the subjects, materials and techniques in the productions of the artists also went towards a conceptual evolution in parallel with these developments. Robert Rauschenberg, one of the young artists of that period, developed a unique new technique and style understanding by using industrial and found objects in his works in the Combine Series. In this direction, the artist has also become an important representative of post-war American Art. The artist has made different applications that go beyond the possibilities of both dimensions with the understanding of traditional paint without any restrictions on objects and materials in his works in the Combine Series, which includes experimentation. The aim of the study is to present information about the use of the object in an artistic form on the basis of sociological arguments, to understand the art understanding of the period, to reveal the coexistence of different materials and techniques, and to examine the artistic attitude of the artist in the Combine Series produced between 1954-1964. Hence, the artist's political, social and cultural and so on. Before proceeding to examine the works he put forward inspired and influenced by his developments; primarily in this period, the social transformations affecting the artistic productions and art movements of R. Rauschenberg were briefly discussed. In this study, four works (Bed, Rebus, Canyon, Monogram) of the American artist Robert Rauschenberg, which are among the main works related to his productions in the Combine Series between 1954 and 1964, were examined and the research was limited within this scope. Through these works, the artist's transformation of non-art objects into art forms is discussed. For this research text, local and foreign printed and online sources were used and literature review was used in the method of the research.
