- Abstract
The article explores risk factors, diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents. The increase in type 2 diabetes among children and adolescents has emerged in parallel with an alarming rise in the number of young people who have become overweight or obese. Along with family history, obesity stands out as a prominent risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association criteria for diagnosis of diabetes are the same for children, adolescents and adults.
