- Abstract
This article presents a study comparing the use of dexmedetomidine and fentanyl as adjuvants to spinal anesthesia in patients undergoing surgery. The study, conducted in Pakistan, included 240 patients and measured variables such as block duration, safety profile, and post-anesthesia care unit stay. The results showed that dexmedetomidine had a longer block duration and a better safety profile compared to fentanyl. However, fentanyl had a faster onset of block. The study recommends using dexmedetomidine for its safety and longer duration, reserving fentanyl for cases requiring early onset of block.
