- Abstract
Amphistomosis or paramphistomosis is a parasitic disease of livestock, more commonly of cattle, sheep and goats. The disease causes high morbidity and affects the quantity and quality of milk. A study was conducted at Kanjikuzhy Panchayath of Alappuzha district to investigate the effect of anthelmintics in the quality of milk in amphistomosis affected animals. Three different groups of ten animals each were given three drugs orally namely Oxyclozanide-Levamisole (18.7mg/kg), Triclabendazole (12mg/kg) and Albendazole (lOmg/kg). No significant change in CLR and SNF was noted in pre and post treatment groups but for all the treatments, there was significant change in fat values of milk before and after treatment indicating that deworming increases the quality of milk.
