- Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of technological higher education as a way of helping Brazil expand higher education and improve the rate of youth enrolled in higher education between 18 and 24 years. For this was used as a reference the emergence of technological higher education in Brazil, advances of this type of education over the years, growth through private initiative and the recent growth of this courses in the public initiative through the creation of the Federal Institutes of Higher Education - IFES. The research was conducted as a descriptive and exploratory, qualitative and quantitative. With respect to the collection and analysis of data, was used data from the Census of Higher Education, from the National Institute of Studies and Research - INEP, data from the Federal Institutes of Higher Education through the Ministry of Education and Culture - MEC, and reports from two private institutions of higher education in Belo Horizonte, regarding the expansion of technological higher education. Data analysis shows the acceptance of courses, their growth and expansion in terms of years, in both private and public sphere, and the important role of this courses for the expansion of higher education in Brazil, particularly between students with 18 and 24 years, for be configured as: courses of short duration, leading to quick results, implementation simpler, cheaper rates in the private sphere, and focused on areas that require further development in the country to form professionals able to act in the labor market. All these results show that investments in this modality can mean a breakthrough of higher education of the country.
