- Abstract
We attempted prosthodontic treatment with complete dentures to improve the symptoms of edentulous patients complaining of difficulties with ingestion and swallowing. Many elderly patients who need complete dentures have ingestion and swallowing difficulties for various reasons. Those multiple problems are both from general and local orders. Understanding their overall problems is not easy at all. Wearing complete dentures improves the chewing efficiency, but it is not the same for the swallowing which is not enhanced to the patient's satisfaction because of a decline in peripharyngeal muscles strength, changes in the position of larynx and the deterioration in coordination of the elevator muscles of the tongue and hyoid bone.
