- Abstract
This article discusses the prevalence of crime in the latter half of the 18th century in Spain. The author comments on the crimes committed by highwaymen and bandits throughout the country and describes the subsequent regulations enacted by King Fernando VII in an attempt to stop them via the use of the military. He also considers the question of jurisdiction as well as the application of especially harsh punishments towards these thieves. Particular focus is given to the rural regions of Spain, which saw the most instances of delinquency.
