- Title
Confidentiality in Classroom Assessment Activities: Lessons from Psychotherapy.
- Authors
Pomerantz, Andrew M.; Santanello, Cathy R.; Kirn, Kim L.
- Abstract
The article discusses the issue of confidentiality in classroom assessment. The authors point out that formative assessment techniques have an implicit or explicit promise of confidentiality. However, breaking confidentiality may be preferable to maintaining it if the behavior of the teacher makes a student vulnerable to harm, danger, or exploitation. The authors suggest that classroom assessors should adopt an informed consent procedure similar to that used by psychotherapists.
