- Abstract
An interview with Appalachian Region scholar Michael E. Maloney is presented. He begins by explaining how violence, particularly the murder of his father when he was one and one half years old, has affected his social advocacy work, and goes on to detail how his experience attending schools run by missionaries influenced his education and career. He also explains how urban Appalachia has influenced Appalachian identity.
