- Abstract
Where possible, the ISMRM also recommends the use of abbreviated or "focused" protocols to minimize the overall MRI exam time and mitigate the additional burden on MRI service to maintain access for all patients with clinically indicated MRI.10 Focused MRI protocols performed in under 10 minutes are a powerful tool to reduce MRI exam time and improve access in general, not just those for whom CT was initially considered. Magnetic Resonance Imaging as an Alternative to Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography to Mitigate Iodinated Contrast Shortages in the United States: Recommendations From the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine On April 19, 2022, the United States (US) Contrast Media Division of GE Healthcare released a letter reporting an acute shortage of iohexol (Omnipaque), the most widely used iodinated contrast media used for contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) and CT angiography (CTA) in the United States.
