A literary criticism of the book "Tercer abecedario espiritual," by 16th Century Spanish Franciscan monk Francisco de Osuna is presented. The religious and cultural background of this treatise on the spiritual discipline of recogimiento (recollection) is noted. The author describes Osuna's argument for recogimiento and explores different ways Christ is used to support the argument and persuade the reader.
