- Abstract
The article discusses the need to evaluate the appropriate time to use point-of-care testing (POCT) in running blood gases in neonates. According to Brad S. Karon, director of POCT for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, health systems must collect information to answer questions on the needs about turnaround and how much time will really be saved. He adds that based on methodologies, clinical protocols and patient populations, each facility must determine testing and reporting parameters.
