- Abstract
The article cites a study which found out that the oxyradical generation that occurs in crabs and the presence of free-radical scavengers and other antioxidant enzymes counteracts the cadmium-induced oxidative stress provides manifestation of the operation of the antioxidant defense system on the freshwater crab. The study aims to investigate the effects of cadmium on the antioxidant defense systems and the lipid peroxidation in the freshwater crab named Barytelphusa guerini. The investigation demonstrated the susceptibility of the tissues of the Barytelphusa guerinito cadium-induced oxidative stress while increase of lipid peroxidation was seen in the gill tissues and liver of the crab.
