- Abstract
Increasing the efficiency of production in economies is ensured by the combination of production factors consisting of labor, capital, natural resources and entrepreneurial elements in certain conditions and proportions. The concept of human capital, which expresses the quality of the labor factor, refers to the labor force participating in production and also affects the efficiency of other production factors. For individuals who allocate a significant portion of their time to work and other obligatory activities, leisure pursuits serve as crucial means for personal satisfaction, mental rejuvenation, and physical relaxation. Recreational activities, chosen to encompass all enjoyable and relaxing endeavors beyond work and basic needs, in which individuals consciously engage, internalize feelings of freedom and happiness, contribute positively to societal processes of change. Within the scope of the study, it is aimed to determine the factors affecting individuals' participation in recreational activities for a fee and to reveal how they vary in terms of variables considered with qualitative preference models by using the survey data applied to 66,176 people in the TURKSTAT Income and Living Conditions Survey (2021). As a result, it is determined that variables such as gender, demographic characteristics, education level, income level, employment status, health condition, and car ownership have a significant impact on participation in recreational activities. Avoiding the routine of life and encouraging individuals to participate in various activities, facilitating effective time management, and supporting them in obtaining greater satisfaction from leisure activities than from routine tasks enhances productivity. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the factors influencing participation in recreational activities and not to overlook improvements that can be made in this regard.
