- Abstract
This article cites a clinical case-report of spontaneous rupture of hepatoblastoma in a 10-month-old healthy male infant. Hepatolalastoma, reportedly, is the most common liver tumor in childhood and accounts for 0.5 to 2 percent of all pediatric neoplasia. It occurs mainly in children under 3 years of age. In this case, the infant was presented with an acute abdominal crisis due to rupture of the liver tumor. The child was having a 10-hour history of projectile vomiting and intermittent crying. Physical examination showed a pale, well-nourished, moderately dehydrated child. He was placed on chemotherapy according to Children's Cancer Study Group protocol 862 using 6-week cycle of vmcristine, cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, and 5-fluorouracil. Two months later, he was noted to have progressive abdominal distention with a right lower quadrant mass. CT scan showed a huge anterior abdominal mass in contact with the liver and a large retroperitoneal mass along the spine from TIO to L2. Chest x-ray remained normal. He died 4 months after the initial diagnosis.
