- Authors
Zeller, Michelle P.; Kaufman, Richard M.
- Abstract
The article deals with the use of patient blood management (PBM) which shifted toward conserving the patient's own blood during surgical procedures. It explores the efficacy of PBM in improving outcomes by optimizing the patient's red cell mass, minimizing blood loss and limiting transfusions. Also discussed is an international PBM guideline which offers evidence-based recommendations based on the 2018 Frankfurt Consensus Conference in Germany.
