- Title
A Commentary on the Inclusion of the Dutch Caribbean within Caribbean Anthropological Studies.
- Abstract
From the creation of two orthographies - Papiamentu (phonological) and Papiamento (etymological) - to the research that is dedicated to its syntactical attributes, Papiamentu/o is one of the few Caribbean Creoles to get attention within linguistics. First, Papiamentu/o, the language spoken in Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao (ABC islands), is one of only two Creoles in the Caribbean with an official status (the other being Haitian Kreyòl). In the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao), the relationship between Papiamentu/o and Dutch is complicated, yet in certain aspects, Papiamentu/o does not have a diminished presence.
