- Abstract
It could be shown that well cooked sulfite pulps can be produced by using sulfite cooking acids containing various soluble amines as bases. Although the organic bases used were on the whole much weaker than the usual inorganic bases, some of the pulps showed not only equivalent properties, but even surpassed the quality of pulps produced according to conventional processes. Especially with the tertiary bases trimethylamine and pyridine, which with high-molecular residues produce soluble, surface active quarternary "-onium" compounds, pulps with low residual lignin content could be obtained. It was also possible to obtain a good yield of bright pulps with ethanolamine and piperidine.
