- Abstract
Liquid diet is the majority of nutrition resources until the young ruminant could begin to consume enough solid diet. 30 seven-day-old dairy goat kids were randomly allocated to BTW which were given total daily amount of milk replacer at the rate of 20 % of the body weight to kids and BTE which were given total daily amount of milk replacer at the rate of 10% of the body weight to kids. Body weight was measured on the first day of each week to calculate the given level of milk replacer in each kid. Kids were fed twice a day at 7:30 am and 16:30 pm and the actual milk intake was recorded every day. The rate of milk replacer powder and warm water was 1:7 which contained 12.5 % of dry matter. Starter feed was started to give at the second week and ad libitum in the trial. Results showed the daily body weight gain of kids in BTW were greater than in BTE which was higher 94 % of gain. The dry matter intake of milk replacer was also higher 135 % in BTW than in BTE. The feed conversion rate was no significant difference among the trial. In conclusion, giving milk replacer at the rate of 10 % of the body weight in goat kids was beneficial body weight gain.
