- Abstract
Kappa-casein stabilizes micelle formation, preventing casein precipitation in milk. The aim of this study was to investigate the milking ability of dairy cows, also known as the milking speed (MS), and its relationship with CSN3 gene polymorphism. A total of 3625 milking records of 69 cows in private daity farm was collected during August 2019. MS on the period of 0 ~ 15 s (MS15), 15 ~ 30 s (MS30), 30 ~60s (MS60), 60 ~ 120 s (MS120), and averaged MS (mMS) for every single milking was evaluated. Statistical model included CSN3 genotype, parity, milking period (AM vs. PM), and 6 lactation stages (30, 60, 170, 280 and 305 days of postpartum as threshold) and treated as fixed effects. Animal and residual were random. The SNP of CSN3 gene is polymorphic with A allele being dominant in the herd. Cows with BB genotype showed the most milking ability in tenns of all MS traits considered. Also, AB genotype cows had the lowest MS compared with others. The more milking yield, the more efficient the MS.
