- Abstract
The article discusses the repercussions of genetic variation on gene expression regulation and significance of genetic mechanisms in mammals during embryogenesis that is still unexplored. It states that studies conducted on the topic have proved maternal effect plays a crucial role in embryonic gene expression pattern. It is also suggested the maternal effects contribute to evolutionary divergence and gene regulatory networks show less evolutionary constraint in embryo development.
