- Abstract
Language learning strategies vary depending on social and contextual factors. As a developing country, China has implemented the Korean language in its educational system to facilitate economic growth through increased trade and investment with Korea. This study seeks to understand the influence of Korean language learning on the career prospects of Chinese students, with a focus on how proficiency in the Korean language contributes to their professional success and opens up opportunities in the global job market. This study examines the implementation and importance of the Korean language in Chinese universities and its impact on students' career opportunities. An online survey was conducted among 243 Chinese university students, where 135 of them were Korean learners and the rest of them were non-Korean learners. For qualitative analysis, the research was conducted the via questionnaire method and examined the benefits of learning Korean from 108 non-Korean learners and 135 Korean learners. The research utilized qualitative and quantitative methods for the data analysis. The results show that learning Korean improves students' attitudes, lifestyles, and employability, particularly in industries where Korea and China collaborate. Knowledge of Korean can help Chinese students establish and maintain business contacts with Koreans, leading to the economic development of China. The study highlights the importance of Korean language education in China for career development and economic growth. By emphasizing the significance of the Korean language in the lives and career trajectories of Chinese students, this study opens avenues for future research to delve into the development of more impactful learning approaches.
