- Abstract
Knee joint replacement surgery is classified as one of the major surgical interventions for patients with grade III/IV gonarthrosis, where the disease has significantly affected their quality of life, functionality, and pain levels. It is associated with a high incidence of moderate to severe acute postoperative pain, as well as a greater occurrence of persistent chronic post-surgical pain. Our hospital, with 85 years of service to the community, is one of the facilities performing the highest number of knee joint replacement surgeries in the private sector of the region. In 2022, we conducted 68 surgeries, and in 2023, 44 joint replacement surgeries, necessitating the maintenance of specific analgesic criteria and protocols to ensure optimal recovery and pain management for these patients. This paper discusses the experience during the evaluation of the Pain Out México project, where we had the opportunity to participate in trauma and orthopedic surgery. From 2019 to 2023, 42 patients were evaluated, with 21 surgeries being unilateral knee joint replacements and three surgeries being total bilateral joint replacements. Analgesic techniques are described in accordance with the protocols used in this hospital unit, with analgesia reports on days 1, 7, and 28 postoperatively.
