- Abstract
In this work we present a comparison between different approaches to fitting an ellipse to the human pupil in a video image with respect to quality, robustness and speed. We started our investigation with well-known methods and tried to find and eliminate typical problems of these approaches. Furthermore we tried out some alternative ways at the different Steps of the algorithms. After all we created a Framework for our problem of fitting an ellipse to the human pupil. With this framework we could create our optimal method. Finally we measured the quality, robustness and speed of the different approaches with the help of test and original images. As a result we found a robust and high quality method that can handle more than 200 Frames per second on an Intel Pentium® IV 2.66 GHz. With some restrictions on quality and robustness you can even fit more than 550 pupils per seeond.
