- Abstract
This article discusses a clinical study on the use of surgical pericardiotomy to treat heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). HFpEF patients experience elevated left ventricular filling pressures during exercise, leading to symptoms and increased risk of hospitalization or death. The study enrolled four patients with severe HFpEF who underwent pericardiotomy. The results showed that pericardiotomy reduced the rise in filling pressures during volume loading, and patients experienced improvements in health status and exercise capacity. The study suggests that pericardiotomy may be a potential treatment for HFpEF, but further research is needed.
