- Abstract
The authors reflect on the development of the CARMAT total artificial heart (TAH) by a medical team headed by Alain Carpentier and an engineering team from Matra Defense, a subsidiary of aerospace company Airbus Group NV, in 1993. They discuss the components of the CARMAT TAH which include two chambers, electro-hydraulic pumps, and pressure sensors. They mention the difference of the device from other artificial hearts and its challenges and benefits.
