- Abstract
This article discusses the use of octanometer. The octane number (ON) is a fundamental characteristic of automotive gasolines. It makes it possible to use gasoline in internal combustion engines with any degree of compression and dictates its cost. The standard method of determining the ON on special single-cylinder setups is somewhat complicated and expensive. It is far from always available to the consumer. For this reason, the attempts of researchers to find a simple laboratory or field method for rapidly determining the quality of and possibility of using gasoline are totally justified.
