- Abstract
This article discusses the hydrogeochemistry and quality of groundwater of the Kinmen Islands of Taiwan. The authors characterized groundwater quality using cluster analysis (CA), factor analysis (FA), and geochemical simulation. They found acidic and oxidizing groundwater with nitrate pollution mainly in the west of Large Kinmen Island. Saline groundwater was distributed in the south of Leiyu Island and to the north-east of Large Kinmen Island. They concluded that granitic sediments precipitate kaolinite and magnetite increasing concentrations of hydrogen ion and raising the redox potential in the aquifers.
