- Abstract
The purpose of this case study was to investigate the new business model adopted by Marluvas Calçados Profissionais, one of the largest Individual Protection Equipment (EPI) companies in Latin America. Moreover, it identified the epicenter of innovation that guided the process of adopting microfiber M Micro in substitution for leather. As a theoretical basis, the Business Model Generation methodology of Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur (2011) was used. The data were collected through a personal interview with the managers. In short, Marluvas' business model is structured in the provision of footwear that complies with technical standards and presents additional comfort and design, being this activity the main source of income. The relationship is business-to-business and has a strong presence of distributors. As for costs, labor and raw materials stand out. The financial sector of Marluvas was the epicenter of innovation for the implementation of micro microfiber M Micro. It was concluded that the adoption of M Micro reconciled the opportunity of new designs, greater safety and compliance with international PPE standards, increasing the long-term planning capacity, given its lower price oscillation in relation to leather.
