- Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in the Portuguese population despite the decreasing trend observed in recent years, resulting from the combination of the effectiveness of prevention measures, with emphasis on the adoption of healthy lifestyles and the correction of modifiable risk factors . Considering the need to improve the identification of risk factors, we wanted to characterize our population with respect to certain of these and it was submitted to "Screening" under the Open Day of the IPS, developed in partnership between the ESSS (teachers / students) and nurses of the Hospital Distrital de Santarém and Unidade de Cuidados na Comunidade de Santarém. Developed a descriptive, exploratory study, with accidental sampling. Data were collected through forms, assisted with anthropometric measurements and vital signs. There were 103 participants aged between 16 and 83 years. We verified the presence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease including smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, hypertension and obesity.
