- Abstract
The clinical cases in which the dentist is dealing with drug consuming patients or ex-consumers are more and more frequent in our country, especially in the urban areas. That is why it is necessary for the dentist to know about the general effects of drugs on the human body, and in particular on the dental structures. The consumption of opioides induces a negative effect on the immune system. The addicted patients are more susceptible to dental affections and the risk of losing their teeth, especially the mandibular ones, is increased. The treatment plan regarding these patients must be individualized in order to ameliorate the prognosis of the dental affections, applying the suitable therapeutic and prevention methods.
