- Abstract
This article examines the limitations of using "small for gestational age" (SGA) as a measure for fetal growth restriction (FGR). The authors argue that SGA does not accurately represent the prevalence or severity of FGR, and it fails to distinguish between high-risk and low-risk infants. They propose alternative approaches, such as incorporating new clinical markers and using unsupervised learning methods, to better define and understand FGR. The authors suggest that abandoning SGA as a criterion for FGR in research could lead to improved insights into the causes and treatment of pathological growth restriction.
