- Abstract
Objective: To identify nursing scientific work about the health information system/ Hiperdia and to analyze studies outlining the themes with their applicability to nursing practice. Methods: This is a descriptive literature review with qualitative approach carried out from May to June 2010. The Lilacs, Medline, Scielo and BDENF data bases were searched using the following descriptors: information systems, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Seven potential studies were selected. Results: After reading the articles three categories emerged: Health information systems and nursing; Epidemiological profile of hypertensive and diabetic patients treated in primary care; Information systems database. Conclusion: We can identify three main kinds of scientific work: those that provide information about the health system itself, focusing on the importance of their suitability, work, flow and analysis, and quality of information related to hypertension and diabetes; those that search for the registered users profile of this system, and those that discuss the implementation and importance of this system to nursing. The health information system/Hiperdia can be used by nurses to create new strategies for prevention, promotion and health recovery using this information system, and also allows an aid in management health unit issues.
