- Abstract
A case of adductor type spasmodic dysphonia, a rare, difficult to diagnose laryngeal disorder has been reported. This laryngeal dystonia impedes or prevents communication considerably deteriorating the quality of life, while current methods of treatment do not ensure full recovery. A survey of relevant literature has been also included. The reported case confirms the dilemmas the clinicians treating patients with spasmodic dysphonia patients are facing. Botulinum toxin injections represent currently the most effective method of treatment of this disorder. However, it should be stressed that simultaneous voice therapy, the modules of which have been described in detail, constitutes an indispensable element of the comprehensive treatment procedure.
