- Abstract
The article focuses on the rediscovery of a portrait of William Wentworth Fitzwilliam, an 18th-century Earl and Whig politician, which is thought to have been painted by the artist Sir Joshua Reynold. The article discusses the life of Earl Fitzwilliam, his relationship with fellow politician Charles James Fox and the inheritance laws in early 20th-century Great Britain which ruled that chattels (such as pictures) on an estate would be given to whomever inherited the estate.
