- Abstract
The article focuses on the use of artificial larynx as an in-vitro device in assessing biofilm mediated voice prosthesis (VP) leakage. It notes that a microbial biofilm impairs the function of the silicone valve, necessitating frequent prosthesis replacement which may result in complications such as stenosis, inhalation pneumonia and scar tissue formation. It stresses the significant development of VP as a valuable resource for evaluating treatment regimes for improving VP lifetime in situ.
