- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of manual small-incision cataract surgery (MSICS) training among ophthalmology trainees, particularly in developing countries. MSICS is highlighted as a valuable skill that allows for better outreach activities due to its advantages such as affordability, speed, and skillfulness. The article suggests that training in MSICS first, followed by phacoemulsification, can provide a better understanding of tissue handling and facilitate the learning of other surgical procedures. The benefits of MSICS, including smaller incisions, reduced astigmatism, and the ability to perform surgery on complicated cases, are also mentioned.
