- Title
NEW TREATMENT FOR MACULAR DEGENERATION.
- Abstract
The article reports the discovery of a treatment for macular degeneration. Arthur G. Erdman and Timothy W. Olsen, professors at the University of Minnesota in Twin Cities, Minnesota, came up with a surgical procedure and accompanying device to treat the degenerative eye condition. University of Minnesota officials, seeking to develop a revenue stream for the university, have created a start-up company, Macular Regeneration, to market the invention. Because officials at the university are currently seeking a patent on the treatment, no details of the procedure and device have been made public, however Erdman indicated that the treatment has been in development since 2001, when he teamed up with Olsen.
