- Abstract
The authors provide information about edible lotus, water plants that grow in shallow and still water in natural areas. They note the role of lotus in the culture of other countries, citing social and religious festivities dedicated to celebrating the annual flowering and harvest of lotus. They disclose that people in other countries have been eating lotus as part of their daily diet. An overview of two lotus species, Nelumbo lutea and Nelumbo nucifera, is provided.
